It is not easy to fill shoes of great Valentino Garavani at Valentino, but Alessandra Facchinetti faced no difficulty in doing so. Facchinetti proved the critics wrong, and presented a wonderful collection which has an essence of Valentino. But Facchinetti went a step further and made her collection much more youthful than that of Valentino. Valentino’s clientele were mainly middle aged or old ladies, but Facchinetti’s collection was much younger and futuristic.

Facchinetti was appointed as the successor of Valentino for the same purpose, of giving the label a youthful look without damaging the essence of Valentino. Very few people have expected this wonderful performance by Facchinetti, as she had a bad experience with Gucci in 2004. She was asked to leave Gucci only 10 days after showing her second collection, over a disagreement with the management.  The 35-year-old designer then spent eight months thinking of her next move, before joining the French outerwear brand Moncler. Instead of borrowing ideas from Valentino, Facchinetti presented new ideas for skirts and cape coat. Instead of bright shades she used very gentle colours, like pale bule, gray and rain washed sky. Facchinetti collection was lauded by the young Hollywood actresses, who were sitting in the front row. Unlike earlier, now they have lot to choose from Valentino. But Facchinetti said she is not trying to replace Valentino, as no one can do so. She said she is trying to keep the masters essence alive in her collection. Well so far so good Facchinetti.
